  • Free wheelchair services are provided at:

    • Masjid al-Haram (Makkah)

    • Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (Madinah)

  • Available at entrances and designated counters.

  • Many hotels near the Haram / Prophet’s Mosque can arrange wheelchairs.

🔹 Tips for Using Wheelchairs

  1. Arrive Early – during peak times, wheelchairs may be in high demand

  2. Bring a Companion – ideally a family member or assistant for pushing the wheelchair

  3. Reserve in Advance (Optional) – some hotels and private companies allow pre-booking

  4. Accessible Routes:

    • Tawaf areas have ramps and level floors

    • Sa‘i walkways have wheelchair-accessible lanes

    • Separate entrances and lifts for easier access in Masjid al-Haram and Al-Masjid an-Nabawi

🔹 Wheelchair Rentals / Services

  • Free Official Wheelchairs: At mosque entrances

  • Private Rental Services:

    • Hotels or local providers may rent a wheelchair for daily or full-trip use

    • Cost: ~£10–£20 per day depending on type and duration

🔹 Wheelchair-Friendly Ritual Tips

  1. Ihram & Tawaf:

    • Can perform Tawaf seated in wheelchair if unable to walk

    • Make du‘a and gestures of respect at Hajar al-Aswad

  2. Sa‘i (Safa & Marwah):

    • Wheelchair-accessible lanes available

    • Companion can push if walking is limited

  3. Halq/Taqsir:

    • Sitting is fine; rituals can be completed without standing

🔹 Safety Tips

  • Keep belongings secured to prevent tipping

  • Avoid overloading the wheelchair

  • Stay hydrated and take breaks in shaded areas

  • Move with crowds carefully; follow designated wheelchair paths

🔹 Additional Advice

  • Elderly pilgrims: Use wheelchair intermittently for rest if able to walk short distances

  • Hospitals & clinics: Wheelchair users can be transported directly if health issues arise

  • Masjid Services: Staff volunteers are usually available to assist with wheelchairs at peak times

💡 Key Point:
Wheelchairs are widely available and free at the mosques, but having a companion and planning routes ensures a comfortable, stress-free Umrah experience. Even elderly or mobility-impaired pilgrims can complete all rituals with proper support.
