My DIY Umrah

🗓️ Best Time of Year

1️⃣ Off-Peak Months (Most Comfortable)

  • Shawwal (after Eid al-Fitr)

  • Rabi’ al-Awwal & Jumada (non-Hajj months)

  • Safar & Dhu al-Qi’dah
Why: Fewer crowds, easier mobility for elderly or kids, more space in Haram.

2️⃣ Peak Months (Crowded but Special)

  • Ramadan (especially last 10 nights)

    • Extremely spiritual, huge rewards

    • Very crowded → patience required

  • Hajj season (Dhu al-Hijjah, first 8 days)

    • Umrah is allowed, but Haram is extremely crowded

    • Not recommended for first-timers or elderly

3️⃣ Weather Considerations

  • Cooler months: October – March

    • Pleasant temperatures (~20–30°C)

    • Comfortable for elderly and children

  • Hot months: May – September

    • Can exceed 45°C in Makkah → risk of dehydration

    • Requires early morning or late-night visits

⏰ Best Time of Day

1️⃣ Late Night / Early Morning

  • 11:00 pm – 2:00 am (Tawaf and Sa‘i)

  • Pros: Minimal crowd, peaceful, cooler temperatures

  • Cons: Requires staying up late

2️⃣ After Fajr

  • 5:00 – 7:00 am (depending on season)

  • Pros: Quiet, spiritual, safer for elderly

  • Cons: Slightly busier than late night

3️⃣ Avoid

  • Peak prayer times (Maghrib/Isha, Jummah)

  • Midday in summer (extreme heat)

📝 Tips for Choosing Your Time

  • With kids: Late night might be hard → go after Fajr or early evening

  • With elderly: Early morning or late night; avoid peak heat

  • First-timers: Off-peak months, early morning for calm learning

  • Crowds: Ramadan & Hajj = spiritual, but requires extra patience

Summary:

  • Best combination: Off-peak month + early morning or late night

  • Most rewarding but crowded: Ramadan nights

  • Avoid: Hajj peak days unless experienced
