My DIY Umrah

1️⃣ King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) – Jeddah

  • Closest airport to Makkah (~1–1.5 hours by car)

  • Major international airport with frequent flights worldwide

  • Facilities:

    • Special pilgrim lounges

    • Airport Haram shuttle services

    • Multiple taxi, Uber/Careem, and hotel transfers

🟢 Best for: Most pilgrims doing Umrah first in Makkah

2️⃣ Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Airport (MED) – Madinah

  • Located close to Masjid Nabawi (~15–20 minutes by car)

  • Quieter than Jeddah, fewer crowds

  • Facilities include pilgrim services and lounges

🟢 Best for: Pilgrims visiting Madinah first, then traveling to Makkah

3️⃣ King Khalid International Airport (RUH) – Riyadh

  • Major gateway if flights to Jeddah/Madinah are unavailable

  • Requires domestic flight or train to Makkah or Madinah (~1.5–2 hours to catch connecting flight)

🟢 Best for: Travelers from countries with direct flights only to Riyadh

4️⃣ Prince Nayef Bin Abdulaziz Airport (AHB) – Qassim / Other Regional Airports

  • Smaller regional airports with limited international flights

  • Can be used if part of a domestic travel plan

✈️ Tips for Choosing Airports

  • Jeddah (JED) = ideal for most first-timers → Makkah first

  • Madinah (MED) = ideal if visiting Prophet’s Mosque first

  • Direct flights reduce travel fatigue

  • Avoid tight layovers, especially with children or elderly

  • Consider airport transfers and train options (Haramain High-Speed Train)

Bottom line:

  • Jeddah = main gateway for Makkah

  • Madinah = main gateway for Madinah-first trips

  • Choose based on itinerary, flight availability, and convenience 🌙✨
