My DIY Umrah

👩‍🕌 Rules for Women Performing Umrah

1️⃣ Travel & Mahram Rules 🛂

  • Women under 45 must usually travel with a mahram (male guardian: husband, father, brother) unless traveling under government-approved regulations.

  • Women over 45 may be allowed to travel without a mahram if approved by the authorities.

  • Check current Saudi Ministry of Hajj & Umrah rules before booking.

2️⃣ Dress & Ihram 👗

  • Wear modest, loose clothing covering the whole body (except face & hands).

  • Headscarf (hijab) is required.

  • Do not cover face or hands in Ihram (face veil not worn in Ihram).

  • Wear comfortable shoes suitable for Tawaf and Sa‘i.

3️⃣ Ihram & Rituals 🕊️

  • Enter Ihram at Miqat before crossing the designated point.

  • Follow the same Umrah steps as men:

    1. Niyyah (intention)

    2. Tawaf (7 circuits around Ka‘bah)

    3. 2 rak‘ahs near Maqam Ibrahim

    4. Sa‘i (7 rounds between Safa & Marwah)

    5. Hair trimming or cutting (for women: a small lock is enough)

4️⃣ Modesty & Conduct 🌸

  • Maintain hijab at all times in Haram and public areas.

  • Avoid physical contact with men (other than mahram) in crowded spaces.

  • Keep patience and calm, especially in crowded rituals.

5️⃣ Prayer & Spiritual Rules 📿

  • Women can pray anywhere in the mosque, but usually in the designated women’s area.

  • Women may perform Tawaf and Sa‘i safely in the women-only sections if desired.

  • Menstruation (Hayd) or postnatal bleeding (Nifas):

    • Cannot perform Tawaf in a state of menstruation; must wait until clean

    • Sa‘i and other rituals can resume after purity

6️⃣ Health & Safety Tips 🩺

  • Bring comfortable shoes and clothing

  • Stay hydrated and rest between rituals

  • Keep medications handy

  • Consider traveling with a trusted companion

Bottom line:
Women’s Umrah is valid, safe, and spiritually rewarding when following modesty, Ihram, and safety rules. Planning ahead makes the pilgrimage smooth and peaceful 🌙✨
