Halq and Taqsir are the final steps of Umrah. Once completed, you exit the state of Ihram and all Ihram restrictions end.
Halq: Shaving the entire head
Taqsir: Trimming the hair from all parts of the head
Both are valid, but Halq carries more reward for men.
Halq (shaving):
Most rewarding
Highly recommended for first-time Umrah
Taqsir (trimming):
Allowed
Hair must be trimmed from all over the head, not just one spot
✋ Important:
Do not cut hair before completing Sa‘i
One person may cut another’s hair
Use clean tools
Only Taqsir is allowed
Trim about a fingertip’s length (1–2 cm) from the ends of the hair
Hair can be cut privately or by a trusted person
Shaving is not permitted for women
Performed after Sa‘i
Can be done:
Inside the Haram area
At barbershops nearby
At your accommodation (for women)
Ihram restrictions immediately end
You may:
Change clothes
Use perfume
Resume normal activities
Your Umrah is complete 🤍
Cutting hair before Sa‘i
Trimming only a few strands
Men shaving part of the head only
Women cutting more than required
Forgetting intention (even silently)
This small act symbolizes humility, renewal, and obedience.
End your Umrah calmly, gratefully, and with du‘a.
Below are women-specific mistakes during Taqsir that are very common—knowing them helps ensure your Umrah is valid and stress-free 🤍
Mistake: Cutting a large section or several inches
Correct Way: Trim only a fingertip’s length (about 1–2 cm) from the ends
Mistake: Trimming hair right after Tawaf
Correct Way: Sa‘i must be completed first, then Taqsir
Mistake: Snipping a few random hairs
Correct Way: Hair should be trimmed from all parts of the head (by gathering it together)
Mistake: Trimming hair openly in the Haram or public spaces
Correct Way: Do it privately—hotel room, restroom, or behind a barrier
Mistake: Allowing a male barber or non-mahram to cut hair
Correct Way: Cut it yourself or have a female/mahram do it
Mistake: Shaving or closely shaving the head
Correct Way: Shaving is not permitted for women—only trimming
Mistake: Removing hijab, using perfume, or changing clothes before trimming hair
Correct Way: Ihram ends only after Taqsir is completed
Mistake: Delaying hair cutting due to lack of wudu
Correct Way: Wudu is not required for Taqsir
Allah looks at obedience, modesty, and intention, not how much hair is cut.
Keep it simple, private, and sincere.
