My DIY Umrah

🧠 Before You Start (5-Minute Setup)

  • Use a manual or electric wheelchair (both allowed)

  • Assign one main caregiver to push & count rounds

  • Carry water, meds, and tissues

  • Aim for late night (11 pm–2 am) or early morning (after Fajr)

1️⃣ Entering Masjid al-Haram (Best Entrances)

Recommended wheelchair entrances:

  • King Fahd Gate

  • King Abdulaziz Gate

  • Ajyad side ramps

👮 Security will guide you to the correct ramp/elevator—don’t hesitate to ask.

2️⃣ Tawaf Route (Safest & Calmest)

✅ Best Option: Upper Tawaf Level (Roof / Level 2)

  • Fully wheelchair-accessible

  • Smooth flooring

  • Much less crowded

  • Clear visibility of the Kaaba

📍 You will be guided to:

  • Elevator → Upper Tawaf Level

  • Join the Tawaf lane

  • Complete 7 full circles counter-clockwise

🟢 Tawaf on upper levels is 100% valid.

3️⃣ Two Rak‘ahs After Tawaf

  • Pray seated in wheelchair if needed

  • Pray anywhere on the level

  • No need to reach Maqam Ibrahim

🟢 Seated prayer is valid for those unable to stand.

4️⃣ Zamzam Access

  • Zamzam dispensers are available on all levels

  • Staff can assist if needed

  • Drink slowly, seated

5️⃣ Sa‘i Route (Safa ↔ Marwah)

✅ Wheelchair-Friendly Sa‘i Level

  • Use designated elevators from Haram level

  • Follow clear signs to Sa‘i wheelchair lanes

  • Complete 7 trips (Safa → Marwah = 1)

🟢 Sa‘i in wheelchair is fully valid.

6️⃣ Rest Break (Highly Recommended)

  • Sit in shaded seating areas

  • Hydrate

  • Snack lightly

  • Check vitals if needed

🟢 Resting does not affect Umrah validity.

7️⃣ Hair Cutting (Completion Step)

  • Exit calmly

  • Choose a quiet barber near hotel

  • Women can trim hair in hotel room

🎉 Ihram ends here — Umrah complete.

⏱️ Realistic Timing

  • Tawaf (wheelchair, upper level): 45–75 min

  • Sa‘i (wheelchair): 45–60 min

  • Total Umrah time (with rests): 2–3 hours

⚠️ Safety & Comfort Tips

  • Avoid ground-floor Tawaf unless very empty

  • Do NOT aim for Hajar al-Aswad

  • Watch slopes on ramps

  • Switch caregivers if fatigued

🤍 Important Reassurance

  • Wheelchair Umrah is not lesser

  • Allah values ease for the weak

  • Serving someone in a wheelchair may outweigh your own physical worship

🧭 Optional Add-Ons (If Energy Allows)

  • Short visit to Rawdah (if in Madinah)

  • Night prayer seated in Haram

  • Extra Tawaf on later days (optional)
