My DIY Umrah

Tawaf is the act of worship where you walk around the Kaaba seven times in a specific way, expressing love, humility, and obedience to Allah.

🔹 What Is Tawaf?

  • One complete circle = 1 round

  • 7 rounds total

  • Always move counter-clockwise

  • The Kaaba stays on your left

🔹 How to Perform Tawaf

1️⃣ Start at Hajar al-Aswad

  • Stand in line with the Black Stone

  • If possible, kiss it

  • If not, point with your hand and say:

    Allahu Akbar

This marks the beginning of each round.

2️⃣ Walk Around the Kaaba

  • Walk calmly and respectfully

  • Men: brisk walk (raml) during the first 3 rounds only

  • Women: normal walking pace throughout

  • Make any dua, dhikr, or Qur’an recitation
👉 No fixed dua is required

3️⃣ Complete 7 Rounds

  • Each time you reach Hajar al-Aswad, a round is completed

  • Repeat until you finish seven full circles

🔹 After Completing Tawaf

📍 Pray 2 Rak‘ahs

  • Preferably behind Maqam Ibrahim

  • Otherwise, pray anywhere in the mosque

📍 Drink Zamzam

  • Drink with intention

  • Make sincere dua

🌙 Important Notes

  • Wudu is required for Tawaf

  • Modesty and patience are essential

  • Avoid pushing or arguing—reward is in gentleness

  • Getting lost in thought or emotion is normal 🤍

✨ Why Tawaf Matters

Tawaf reminds us that:

  • Allah is the center of our lives

  • We move when He commands

  • Millions circle together—equal, humble, united

🕋 Tawaf Explained — Common Mistakes to Avoid

Knowing what not to do makes Tawaf calmer, safer, and more rewarding. Here are the most common mistakes pilgrims make—and how to avoid them.

❌ 1. Starting Tawaf at the Wrong Point

  • Mistake: Beginning before or after Hajar al-Aswad

  • Fix: Each round must start and end in line with Hajar al-Aswad

❌ 2. Losing Count of Rounds

  • Mistake: Forgetting how many circuits you’ve completed

  • Fix: Count carefully (use fingers or a counter ring). If unsure, go with the lower number

❌ 3. Touching or Kissing the Black Stone by Force

  • Mistake: Pushing, shoving, or hurting others

  • Fix: Point from a distance and say Allahu Akbar
👉 Avoiding harm is more virtuous

❌ 4. Reciting Loud, Group Duas

  • Mistake: Following loud group leaders or shouting

  • Fix: Make quiet, personal duas—Tawaf is not a group chant

❌ 5. Thinking There Are Fixed Duas for Each Round

  • Mistake: Believing each circuit has a specific required dua

  • Fix: There is no fixed dua—any remembrance is valid

❌ 6. Walking Inside the Hijr Ismail

  • Mistake: Passing through the semi-circular wall

  • Fix: Walk outside the Hijr—inside counts as inside the Kaaba and invalidates that round

❌ 7. Men Continuing Raml After the First 3 Rounds

  • Mistake: Brisk walking in all 7 rounds

  • Fix: Raml is only for the first 3 rounds of Tawaf al-Umrah

❌ 8. Not Keeping the Kaaba on the Left

  • Mistake: Turning sideways or circling incorrectly

  • Fix: The Kaaba must remain on your left side at all times

❌ 9. Praying the 2 Rak‘ahs in Walkways

  • Mistake: Blocking paths near Maqam Ibrahim

  • Fix: Pray anywhere clear and safe if the area is crowded

❌ 10. Forgetting Wudu

  • Mistake: Performing Tawaf without ablution

  • Fix: Wudu is required—renew it if it breaks

🌿 Final Reminder

  • Patience > speed

  • Mercy > perfection

  • Sincerity > memorization

Your Tawaf doesn’t need to look perfect—it needs to be sincere 🤍
