My DIY Umrah

1️⃣ Prepare Physically & Mentally 🧘

  • Take a bath or shower (Ghusl) for cleanliness

  • Trim nails and remove unwanted hair (if needed before entering Ihram)

  • Wear clean, modest clothing

2️⃣ Dress in Ihram 👕

Men:

  • Two unstitched white sheets:

    • Rida → over shoulders

    • Izar → wrapped around the waist

  • Sandals allowed (feet partially uncovered)

Women:

  • Loose, modest clothing covering the body

  • Headscarf (hijab) covering hair

  • Face & hands may remain uncovered

3️⃣ Choose the Miqat 🗺️

  • Miqat = designated boundary points for entering Ihram

  • Depending on your route to Makkah, the common Miqats are:

    • Dhul Hulaifah → for people coming from Madinah

    • Al-Juhfah → for people coming from the direction of Syria, Egypt

    • Qarn al-Manazil → for Najd region pilgrims

    • Yalamlam → from Yemen direction

    • Dhat Irq → from Iraq direction

🟢 Tip: You must enter Ihram before crossing the Miqat.

4️⃣ Make the Intention (Niyyah) ✨

  • Mentally and verbally state your intention for Umrah:

    • Example (in your own words): “I intend to perform Umrah for Allah’s sake.”

  • This transforms your state into Ihram

5️⃣ Recite the Talbiyah 📿

  • Immediately after Niyyah, recite:

“Labbayka Allahumma Umrah”

  • Then continue saying the Talbiyah frequently while traveling to Makkah:

“Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk…”

🟢 Tip: Talbiyah should be recited aloud or quietly during the journey, showing devotion.

6️⃣ Follow Ihram Rules ⚠️

While in Ihram, avoid prohibited acts:

  • 🚭 Perfumes or scented products

  • ✂️ Cutting nails or hair

  • 💔 Sexual activity

  • 🧍 Wearing stitched clothing (for men)

  • 🗣️ Arguing, fighting, or swearing

  • 🐦 Hunting or harming animals

7️⃣ Continue to Makkah 🕋

  • Travel calmly to Makkah

  • Perform Tawaf (circumambulation of Ka‘bah)

  • Then Sa‘i (walking between Safa & Marwah)

  • End Ihram with hair trimming or cutting

Bottom line:
Entering Ihram is both a physical and spiritual preparation. Start at the Miqat, wear Ihram clothing, make your intention, recite Talbiyah, and follow the rules. This ensures your Umrah is valid and spiritually focused 🌙✨
